AppraiseItNow is an American online appraisal company that prepares USPAP-compliant appraisals of personal property, fine art, machinery and equipment, vehicles, boats, inventory and closely held businesses for clients in all 50 states.[1] The company was founded in October 2021. It is headquartered at 443 Park Avenue South in Manhattan, New York City.[2] Joe Kattan, who joined the business as a co-owner in 2022, acquired full ownership in November 2024 and is the company's owner and chief executive officer.[3][4]
History
AppraiseItNow was founded in October 2021. According to the company, it was founded to address three common problems in ordering a professional appraisal: finding an appraiser who specializes in the asset, getting a fee in writing before work starts, and knowing when the report will be delivered.[1]
Joe Kattan, a finance graduate of the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business, joined the business as a co-owner in 2022, before starting as a consultant at Bain & Company.[3][4] In November 2024 Kattan bought out his business partner, and the following month he left Bain to run AppraiseItNow full time.[4] According to the company, it has since grown several times over and expanded the assets it appraises to include fine art, complex machinery and equipment, and business interests.[1]
Services
AppraiseItNow appraises personal property, fine art, machinery and equipment, vehicles, boats, inventory and closely held businesses.[1] Its appraisals are prepared for purposes including:[5][6]
- Charitable donations, including noncash contributions reported on IRS Form 8283
- Estate settlement and probate
- Divorce and equitable distribution
- Insurance coverage and claims
- Financial reporting
- Lending
Operations and fees
Most AppraiseItNow appraisals are completed from photographs and documents. When an inspection is needed, an appraiser travels to the asset, and clients do not bring items to an office.[2]
The company quotes a fixed fee before any work begins and does not bill hourly. As of November 2026, its standard personal property reports start at $195 and its IRS-qualified personal property appraisals start at $295.[6]
Standards and credentials
AppraiseItNow prepares its reports in accordance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the appraisal standards maintained by The Appraisal Foundation.[1][7] Noncash charitable contributions above certain values generally require a qualified appraisal and are reported on IRS Form 8283; the company offers IRS-qualified appraisals for these filings.[8][6] Between them, the company's appraisers hold ISA, CAGA, ASA, ABV and CFA designations.[5]
